Corona support for suppliers

BANEDANMARK IS SUPPORTING THE PRIVATE SECTOR BY PAYING EARLY, PREPAYING AND CO-FINANCING TO KEEP THE WHEELS TURNING DURING THE CORONA CRISIS.
The corona pandemic sweeping the world has shut down large parts of Danish society, but as one of the country’s major public developers, Banedanmark is responsible for ensuring that a great number of construction projects can continue uninterrupted. Most of the work is carried out by private contractors and suppliers, and construction projects cannot go on without them. That is why Banedanmark is now undertaking to do its part to support the private enterprises.

Firstly, Banedanmark, like a great deal of other public authorities, has brought forward payment of invoices and is paying bills as quickly as possible – regardless of due date. In addition, it has been decided to prepay suppliers for services to be rendered up to 1 July. Finally, Banedanmark has offered contractors to pay a share of the expenses for the extra space at construction sites required to reduce the risk of infection.

“We see it as our duty to support the private sector economically at this time. Also, we want to guarantee workers safe working conditions to ensure that we look out for the people who show up physically for work on railway projects and our many track maintenance projects,” says Peter Jonasson, Construction Director.

Some of the major construction projects that are continuing on during this period, where many Danes are staying at home, are, for example, the track maintenance work between Næstved and Ringsted as well as the preparation for electrification of the Fredericia-Aarhus line and speed upgrade between Hobro and Aalborg.

“The silver lining of all this is that we aren’t inconveniencing passengers during this period as we would have if the traffic situation were normal. With the magnitude of the projects that we are undertaking these days, it is impossible to avoid impacting train operation and passengers,” says Peter Jonasson.
